the Impossibility of the Impossible
We Write Poems gave this as a prompt for this week:
Guardian Angel
–
I wish I could stand up,
reach out with my wand
and say proudly: “Expecto Patronum!”
I wish HE would appear
in the form of bright light
to guard off whatever I fear.
–
Well, I COULD do it.
But that’s all, I’m afraid
No one WILL ever appear
For no guardian angels abide
in my dark cave of despair.
The reference to the Harry Potter spell seems tongue in cheek and the ending doesn’t really detract. I really like the CAPs for emphasis (yea, that’s why it seems tongue in cheek).
Irene – thanks a lot! I didn’t intend it to be tongue in cheek, in fact. Anyway, I’m glad it takes on new aspects 🙂
I really like the reference to Harry Potter, we all carry a similar secret desire for that kind of magic in our lives, and especially when we find ourselves huddled in that cave of despair. Like your honest response to the prompt,
Elizabeth
Elizabeth – Thank you really very much for your understanding! Heart, M.
Mary, very open and honest. A cave of despair.
pamela – thank you very much!
Mariya,
We are all of us Harry Potter fans, beginning with daughter Riley on up to stepdad Lex! Nice reference there. But the “cave of despair,” honestly, that’s where folks usually DO find God, if only because that’s the only time they are weak enough to make themselves vulnerable to something bigger, something that created them, rather than the other way around. Does that make sense? Amy BL

Amy – It does make sense, of course… Only… sometimes nothing could be seen, or heard in the cave. Maybe this is such a moment. Thanks, Mary
Loved it!
angel of shadows
gautami – Thanks!
I like the juxtaposition of the two verses…the first, with your wish against the second, with your reality. Nicely done.

Nicole – thanks a lot!
