Wearing my torn-off jeans with<\/strong><\/span>
\n that loose T-shirt<\/strong><\/span>
\n and the leather jacket I bought<\/strong><\/span>
\n with my own saved money<\/strong><\/span>
\n never gave me more self-confidence<\/strong><\/span>
\n (which was exactly the reason<\/strong><\/span>
\n I would wear them,<\/strong><\/span>
\n especially the jacket)<\/strong><\/span>
\n than at the moment I stepped up<\/strong><\/span>
\n to a belated date,<\/strong><\/span>
\n only my eyes asking<\/strong><\/span>
\n why<\/strong><\/span>
\n his friends had told me about his<\/strong><\/span>
\n other girl-friend<\/strong><\/span>
\n they saw him with<\/strong><\/span>
\n last night<\/strong><\/span>
\n or why<\/strong><\/span>
\n he was an hour<\/strong><\/span>
\n late<\/strong><\/span>
\n for our date.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

That speed beat in my head,<\/strong><\/span>
\n the heavy mainstream of the day<\/strong><\/span>
\n saved me from my teenage collapse,<\/strong><\/span>
\n more than once.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
