Money

Today I have finally caught up online with what I have been doing off-line – the July, Oh my! so-called prompt month, whose main purpose is to drill me into poetry writing form in 31 days, because I seem to have lost it. Whatever ‘it’ is. I have been hesitant on the point of popularising all that, but anybody feeling like doing it will be most welcome here. I have chosen the prompts without much thinking. They simply follow naturally one from the other, with a couple of exclusions. Since July is a strictly summer and holiday month, most of my prompts have to do with various aspects of holiday-making. Some have to do with city entertainment, such as cinema, theatre, opera and cabaret. Others have to do with the sea or the ocean, and still others take you to the mountains and forests for a gulp of fresh air and some chill. Of course, one cannot have it all in 31 prompts, yet I have been really enjoying it so far. I have been doing all those activities mentioned in the prompts, but the theatre and cabaret ones. And to say the truth, I have used my own first-hand experience when writing my poems.

money-jom13The prompt for today, July 13th is Money. Well, the association of money and holiday is a rather obvious one. I mean, who can really afford to take a 31-day leave and still have the money to keep up the good work on the 13th day of it? Hard, I know. Here is a curious look at the matter.

Deposit $5 and play with $30
They say
Or shout
Indeed.
Deposit and we’ll match you
up to an enormous sum
up to where your dreams come true.
Up until you’re fed up
Indeed. We do.
Until you’re all down
and bruised
Game over.

Breathe

Uhm, it’s natural, of course. You need to do it to survive. In every sense of the word. Today, I’m taking more time and applying more diligence into posting and sharing, so that more creative friends may take part in the fun, should they feel like it.

jom-12-breatheI will do my best to post every evening the prompt and my poem to it, so that you can have time to write and post, in your turn. The prompt for July 12th is Breathe.

An unsurpassable mountain
Stands in the way of my sight.
Vision trapped by matter,
Or solely limited in time?

Forest Fresh

Recently, we went to a short holiday and spent a couple of days in the forest. It was mainly raining and that helped the forest release its famous fresh aroma: of branches, trees, leaves, bushes and forest fruits. It was like walking inside a cup of herbal tea, without the inconvenience, of course.

jom10-forestThe prompt for July 10th is Forest Fresh. My poem is below.

forest fresh are leaves I meet
down my path through the day
freedom fresh is air I feel
rustling close to my ears
softly going away deep
in the forest on both sides of my path
up through the day.

Mountain Lake

We’ve been by the river, in the swimming pool and at the beach already. Today, we go somewhere else. A place I really enjoy and always look forward to visiting. Uhm, about this prompt challenge – I am doing it and every day I come up with some new piece of something. Although it was I who invented the prompts, that didn’t exactly make things easier, or in any way different from other prompt cases. When I was making the prompt, I wasn’t thinking of anything I could write to them, I was simply enjoying myself. Hopefully, all my readers do enjoy, too.

mountain-lake-jom-09July 9th came with the prompt of Mountain Lake. Read on to see what I did with that phrase.

Crispy ripples settling down
Like the mist surrounding me.
Corners of the forest path
Noisily exhale their expectation
Quietly inhale their hopes,
And morning air
Breathes around
The gust of storms
Over the winding road
Up against the sky
And there –
at my mountain lake.

By the river

It is time we moved a little bit faster with this prompt thing, but you need to understand: I have a Kindle. So, that has put me on the side of readers rather than writer, at least for the time being. I have no power to get online, or even close to my computer. I do occasional email and FB checks and only react if there is some emergency over there. Apart from that, I have been quite ecologic 🙂 and cleansing myself from electronics in my free time. At work, that is entirely different matter. But, you see, I lead a double life 🙂

river-jom-08Oh, well, to make the long story short, and thus get my Kindle sooner rather than later, here is the July 8th prompt: By The River

I stand, and, thinking, wait
I’m waiting for the day
to pass by
and away
I’m hoping still to see
The running river
Streaming
Flowing
Whispering
by me.

Swimming pool

A week later than necessary (what’s wrong with me, anyway?), I am back to my blog and posting both the prompt and the poem I wrote to it. Well, I don’t suppose too much interest has been kindled to my personal 14-line poetry challenge of July, Oh my!, but as it is summer and thus, holiday time, and as it is so hot and nice outside, who can be to blame? Go out, stay out and enjoy your summer.

sp-jom-07The prompt for July 7th is Swimming Pool. Not unexpected, when you see my last one. Here is my poem:

Swimming pool of rain
and torrents
Quite unexpected
Quite unliked
And yet – so cozy,
cuddling and warm
In songs of laughter,
holiday and fun.

Beach

The awesome prompt challenge goes on, merciless as days go by. So much belated, here comes the prompt for July 6 of the July, Oh my! prompt list and it is Beach. Of course, lying on the beach is what everybody dreams of these days. Imagine people living in Iceland! I saw a photo like a month ago, when we were sweating here in flipflops and spagetti string tops. The photo made me freeze, literally. It showed a very snowy road winding between very snowy mountains. Wherever you are, make sure you are enjoying your time there!

beach-jomHere is my Beach poem:

On the verge of the
covered road
leading to the snails
and grasses wild
Fields of heath and
heart and
heat
Fields of peppermint
and oregano stems.
Beach is where you
make it
Where you lie down or
squat to smile for this
Photo taken.

Dignity, Always Dignity

Here I log in again, already feeling like some guerilla troop, being able to steal a moment here, a minute there and post online a little something. The July, Oh my! prompt for Day 5 is the famous and hilarious line from Singin’ In The Rain, Dignity, Always Dignity.
Here is a link to a video to put you in the mood 🙂 CLICK

dignity-always-dignityHere is my poem for the day’s prompt:

Believing in yourself
Whatever mockery
You make
Just take
It to your heart
And there you go
Around, your head is up
Your feet step firmly
There you walk
and run
Gasping for tomorrow
of today: the day
of dignity, always dignity.

Cabaret

I am slowly catching up with my own poetry prompt challenge, which I called “July, Oh my!” also known as #jom. As I mentioned in my first July challenge post, the list of prompts is ready. I also invite everybody interested in doing the challenge alongside with me to certainly go for it. Should that be case with you, write whatever you decide, post it somewhere online and provide a link in the comments below. I would be really grateful to see you add a link back with your original post. If you happen to not have a blog, you may add your piece in the comments.

Originally, I made up my mind to write poems that would fit on a page in the paper notebook where I draft the poems. It is the same notebook I used for the April Poem-A-Day challenge. Of course, the notebook has a larger capacity than to host just 30 poems plus the contents pages. That was the reason I decided to link the notebook’s characteristics to my July challenge.

Even though no one else will be using my notebook, that limitation stays. Up to 14 lines per poem, up to 14 lines x 4-5 words for short fiction, or non-fiction – that is the standard that should be observed.

july-4-cabaretAnd, it is high time I shared the prompt for July 4th: Cabaret.

Bedazzling, sparkling,
Foaming blue
With silver glitter,
Fastly glued
to fake and flaking splendour
Above suspicions

Quality to render
All life’s amusing facts as growth.
