Cynicism – the wisened old age of idealism (misleading title)

“Inside every cynical person, there is a depressed idealist”

Why are so many idealists depressed? Is cynicism wisdom or simply old age? We say old is wise assuming that old age knows the answers to most questions. Is that helpful, or limiting?

On the other hand, what do limitations matter in old age? You’re anyway at the end of your road… So, could it be despair, instead of wisdom?

I don’t know so many wise old people, as frankly rude and spiteful. And they are all poor, of course.

So, could we say that money makes the difference between wisdom and despair?

And, could we say that remaining time to live makes the difference between cynicism and idealism?
