Yesterday I skipped the search for prompts, which is why my poem is a little late. What you see below is my offering to the wonderful and very thoughtful poetry prompt given by the amazing crew at the d’Verse Poetry site. We are given the chance to choose a musical album cover art and poem on and around it. Not very original of me, I grabbed the Beatles Let It Be title. Among other things, I remember how difficult it was for me to grasp the meaning of the phrase when I first heard the song. It was before the time I knew any English. Believe me, even people claiming they were fluent in the language couldn’t explain the words to me. That was in a different era. Nowadays, everybody is fluent, so this story would be a laughing matter should I tell it to any young person around here. Enough bla-bla! To the poem.
Let It Be
All summer long listening to a song
Trying to understand where exactly did I stand
On a matter I could see would be an issue between the world and me.
Would I shrug it off, saying ‘Let it be’?
Or would I head into the fight,
philosophizing what is right?

I love your take.
Thanks
A question we grapple with, in so many aspects of our lives. Some things we have to let go….because we just can’t hold them all. Thanks for joining in. 🙂
This question, yes… You are so kind to comment
You had me laughing at not understanding it and I do remember how the kids in the street used to sing “Shlafso yeah yeah”
Not knowing what “She loves you” really meant.
Oh, we had some examples like this one, too.
Lovely song. Excellent poem. Interesting take.
While I never struggled with “Let It Be,” I understand how some may.
Thank you, William. Not having any knowledge of a completely different language could be a frustration, yes.
That’s very nice. Great question, do we let it be, or speak up, take action? Letting be works for some things, but not all! It takes wisdom, or trial and error, to try to figure out which is right.
Exactly, Lisa. Every time we need to stop and consider. Thanks for reading my poem!
That is exactly the choice. What did you decide?
Well, various cases, different actions. As for the issue I mentioned in my poem, I have finally grown up enough to learn to let it be. Thank you for your comment!
“Letting it be” is a very Eastern philosophy and perhaps as Marx thought, all religion encourages acceptance rather than struggle, but I believe in trying to leave the world a better place than you found it , so even if its only to struggle to clarify what’s going on, if only in a poem or essay, then I am for action – thought-provoking, Mary…
Very well said. Thanks for reading my poem and it’s intro.
